Prosecutor Cheng-Lin Tseng commanded the joint investigation team comprised of the Yilan County Government Police Bureau, the Taoyuan City Government Police Bureau, and the Criminal Investigation Bureau, 3rd Division, to investigate the case that occurred on January 26, 2024, at the 119.6 km mark of the Su-Hua Highway in Nan'ao Township, Yilan County. The investigation revealed that the victim, identified as Mr. Jian, was the subject of the case. The team executed search and arrest warrants issued by the court on February 22 and apprehended eight suspects led by Mr. Lin. After further interrogation, it was determined that Lin and four others were involved in offenses including corpse abandonment, fatal injury, and aggravated kidnapping resulting in death. Due to the seriousness of the crimes and the risk of evidence tampering, collusion, witness tampering, and flight, the prosecutor successfully applied for their detention. Three other suspects were released on bail pending trial.

Based on confessions and evidence gathered, additional suspects Chen and Yu were arrested on February 23 and 24, respectively, with permission for their detention granted by the court. Another suspect, Gao, was arrested on March 8, and on March 26, based on new evidence, a previously released suspect, Song, was re-arrested with permission for detention granted.

The victim had been subjected to confinement and physical abuse by the defendants multiple times between December of the previous year and January, leading to his death on January 18 or 19 due to injuries sustained, including abrasions and lacerations to the head and face, extensive abrasions to the limbs, substantial subcutaneous tissue bleeding, and rhabdomyolysis. The defendants then abandoned the victim's body on the roadside of the Su-Hua Highway.

The prosecutor's office is committed to swiftly and severely punishing violent crimes to maintain social order and safeguard the lives of the people.
