Yilan District Prosecutors Office and Yilan County Police Bureau Hold an Anti-Fraud Press Conference — Expressing Gratitude to Financial Institutions and Convenience Store Staff for Preventing Scams
On the morning of June 20, 2025, the Yilan District Prosecutors Office and the Yilan County Police Bureau jointly held an “Anti-Fraud Press Conference” at the Yilan County Police Bureau. The event was co-hosted by Chief Prosecutor Wang Yi-Wen and Yilan County Police Commissioner Liu Jiong-Xuan. Actor Jack Kao was invited to serve as the “Anti-Fraud Ambassador” and sincere appreciation was extended to representatives of local financial institutions and convenience store staff for their active efforts in preventing fraud.
Anti-Fraud Ambassador Jack Kao attended the press conference together with his children. In an interview with the media, he spoke about his devotion to Buddhism in recent years, sharing his deep understanding that good and evil always reap their respective consequences. He advised those currently engaged in fraud to abandon their crimes, reminding them with the saying: “When one does evil, disaster may not yet have arrived, but blessings have already departed.”
In his remarks, Yilan County Police Commissioner Liu Jiong-Xuan pointed out that, according to statistical analysis, fraud cases in Yilan County are mostly concentrated in densely populated areas such as Yilan City, Luodong Township, and Dongshan Township. Regarding overall fraud trends, from January to May this year (2025), Yilan County handled an average of 247 fraud cases per month — a decrease of 64 cases compared to the monthly average from August to December last year (2024), marking a significant drop of 21%. In terms of financial losses, the average monthly amount lost to fraud from January to May this year was NT$124.72 million, a reduction of NT$65.28 million compared to the average of NT$190 million per month during August to December last year — a decrease of 34%. These figures indicate that the anti-fraud measures implemented by local prosecutors and police are beginning to show results.
Chief Prosecutor Wang Yi-Wen emphasized in his speech that fraud remains rampant, with “fake investment” scams causing the most severe financial damage. He urged the public to stay vigilant and avoid falling victim to scams. Only by achieving “fraud awareness for all” can society fully combat fraud and turn anti-fraud efforts into a nationwide movement. Chief Prosecutor Wang also presented certificates of appreciation to commend and thank the financial institutions and convenience store staff who successfully helped prevent scams. He encouraged the awardees to maintain their dedication and deepen public-private cooperation to build a robust and comprehensive anti-fraud protection network for the Yilan region.
